The devastation to the US east coast by hurricane Sandy was felt by millions of people. Even today many of the communities along the east coast have not recovered. Please take this opportunity to share with your students the hardships these cities are going through. Share with them the generosity and determination people went through to rescue, protect, and provide basic services to everyone who had their lives turned upside down. Imagine you and your class could not use your TV, internet, cell phone, etc. for a day, that is what happened to these communities weeks. Help came from across the country to cleanup, provide food, shelter and restore utilities.
As you prepare for this year's RCX Challenge, imagine you are the volunteer helping in the aftermath of Super Storm Sandy. Imagine your robot is a rescue vehicle. The construction equipment used to clean the roads. Or volunteer who helped provided food and shelter to millions. Program your robot to restore power, provide food and clean off the roads to accomplish the missions in this year's challenge.
*The RCX Program is open to Public and Certified Non-Public Schools. Students compete in three divisions: elementary, middle and high school. College students are encouraged to help by mentoring students only. College students may not participate directly.
